The Monday eHow Coffee Break

Published by chameleonsdream at 5:48 pm under Just Coffee Edit This

Are you taking a late coffee break like I am? Pull up a chair and set on down… I’ve got the pot on. This afternoon it’s Trader Joe’s Costa Rican Tarrazu whole bean coffee in a nice, medium dark roast. It’s not the best coffee I’ve ever had, but it’s considerably better than most. It tastes even better because I discovered the problem with my coffee maker - a nice Melitta Mill & Serve that has a built-in coffee grinder. I picked it up for a very surprising $29 two years ago at - of all places - Stop&Shop. It was less than half the original price, and it was one of those cases of pure, unplanned serendipity. We were looking for a coffee maker. I wanted one with a built-in grinder. Roommate wanted one that wasn’t too expensive ( this is the roommate that will drink coffee run through yesterday’s coffee grounds, so you can see where our standards collide!). We wandered through Home Depot, Lowe’s, Target and Walmart and had two or three choices picked out in the $40-50 price range - more than he’d ever considered paying for a coffee maker before, but less than I’d really like to have spent. I suggested that we just take a wander down the Stop & Shop aisle to see if they happened to have anything worth bringing home. And surprise! All coffee makers were 25% off the listed price. So. The Melitta was a decent deal - still at the top end of our price range, but I managed to talk him into sprning for $10 more than he wanted to pay. And it really really paid off when we got to the checkout and I pulled out my credit card to pay and found that… they were taking an additional 50% off all card purchases accompanied by a Stop & Shop card.

And with all that said… here’s my pick of coffee reading over at eHow today!
