Coffee in Your Garden

Published by chameleonsdream at 10:44 am under Coffee Klatch Edit This

Snails hate coffeeSo you know - or you would if you’ve been reading my coffee blog for any length of time - that coffee grounds are good for your garden. They’re nice in compost, and your acid-loving flowering plants like azaleas LOVE your leftover coffee and spent coffee grounds. But not everything in your garden loves coffee - and that can be a good thing.

Two pesky little critters that positively LOATHE coffee are snails and slugs. If you’re having trouble keeping the slimy lil guys from munching on your tender new greens, try spreading coffee grounds around the base of the plants. The snails will head off in the other direction as soon as they come in contact with the caffeinated soil.

And it -is- the caffeine that does the trick, so don’t bother with the Sanka. It just won’t have the same effect. You can also spray slugs with full strength drip coffee - or even try misting the plants themselves with it.

Got any more coffee gardening tips? I’d love to hear them!
